Negation is one of the first things you need in real life: kein for nouns (kein Auto), nicht for everything else (Ich komme nicht). This A1 exercise trains the difference with family and everyday vocabulary.
Short answer: use kein/keine directly before a noun — kein Hund, keine Katze, kein Buch. Use nicht for verbs, adjectives and time expressions — Ich arbeite nicht, nicht gut, nicht heute.
The rule in one table

| a noun | kein / keine | Das ist kein Kaffee. / Sie hat keine Zeit. |
| a verb / sentence | nicht | Ich komme nicht. / Wir wohnen nicht in Berlin. |
